8 Week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program 'MBSR'.
The 8 week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) training is a wonderful and practical learning course open to anyone. The course teaches us about stress,-what it is and how it affects our physical and mental wellbeing- and the ways we react to stress and struggles in our lives. We learn to use the tools of mindful meditation practices to help navigate the ups and downs of our lives and experience more balance,clarity and relaxation. No level of previous experience is needed to begin the training: just a willingness to be open to learning new ways to deal with difficulty and stress, and a desire to grow and explore more about how we operate. The course takes place over 8 consecutive weeks, in a small group ,and each weekly session lasts 3 hours. So, this may seem a big undertaking (!) but there are huge benefits to your wellbeing as you go through the course. In terms of mindfulness, the MBSR 8 week program is considered to be the 'gold standard' of learning and training. It was developed by Jon-Kabat Zin who is an American medical doctor who wanted to offer his patients more than just medication to manage their issues. The method is highly researched and written about and is known to help in the management of stress, anxiety, depression and chronic pain. I have been practicing meditation for over 20 years but took my 'teacher training' to deliver the MBSR program through the University of Bangor.
